Nebraska Endowment Hires New Head of Investments

By Kathleen Leahy

Brian T. Neale has accepted the position of Senior Director of Investments at the University of Nebraska Foundation, where he will be their first-ever in-house investment manager.

Mr. Neale comes from MedStar Health, the largest healthcare system in the Washington, DC area, where he managed pension and other portfolios totaling more than $2.5 billion. He previously worked as an institutional investment consultant for Wachovia Securities.

Brian is a Virginian of the old school - literally - with degrees from two of the Old Dominion's most venerable colleges: a BA from the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, and an MBA from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Thomas Jefferson's own alma mater.

His wife, on the other hand, is a native of Omaha, and will be moving closer to her family.

Brian will be working closely with Foundation CFO Jason Kennedy and the investment committee to manage assets of nearly $2 billion, including the University's $1.34 billion endowment. The Nebraska endowment returned 12.9 percent last year, and 3.8 percent annualized for five years, standing high among their peers.
